On Sunday, December 16th, Scotch Plains police arrested a 45 year-old man for his alleged involvement in a violent incident at a CVS parking lot earlier in the day.

According to authorities, a 62 year-old Union woman was walking through the parking lot when a man attempted to grab her pocketbook and run off with it. The woman refused to let go, however, and the man allegedly dragged her the length of three parking spaces before running away without the pocketbook. The woman was treated by emergency medical technicians but refused hospital treatment.

After responding to the incident police conducted an investigation which led them to the home of the accused. The man was arrested without incident at his residence on Park Avenue and was taken to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree aggravated assault.

The man was then taken to Union County jail where his bail was set at $150,000. He awaits a court appearance in Union County Superior Court in Elizabeth.
